Preseason camp is under way for Ole Miss and Mississippi State, and it couldn’t come at a better time in Oxford.
The Rebels’ tumultuous offseason has been well-documented, as they head into the fall with a new head coach in Matt Luke. Parrish talks about that transition and all it entails (3:13), including the question of who might transfer (so far, no one). Compounding matters was the arrests of two key defensive players earlier this week, linebacker Detric Bing-Dukes and defensive back Ken Webster, who have both been suspended for the season opener.
Offensively, Parrish said the Rebels have a lot of promise with QB Shea Patterson lining up behind a talented and experienced offensive line.
The defense needs a lot of work, and new coordinator Wesley McGriff has brought a lot of energy to that side of the ball (17:34). The defensive front has good potential, especially if Breeland Speaks can build on a strong spring.
As for the Bulldogs, their offense also appears to be in good shape with Nick Fitzgerald settled in at quarterback and Aeris Williams established at running back (9:11). As for Fitz’s backup, Logan says true freshman Keytaon Thompson is ahead of schedule.
Logan also looks at wide receiver, which outside of Donald Gray needs some answers, and at an offensive line led by highly touted left tackle Martinas Rankin. On defense, new coordinator Todd Grantham is looking to make vast improvements (24:37). He’s seen several leaders emerge already.
Oh, and MSU had a player arrested, too. Freshman running back Kylin Hill was jailed after allegedly driving 120 mph (14:35). He will not be suspended by Dan Mullen.
