Ole Miss and MSU both had major issues on defense last season, so a big question for both teams as a new season nears is, how much improvement can they make on that side of the ball?
The Rebels were especially vulnerable to the run (7:40), but a promising defensive line could shore up that deficiency. Parrish says whether it does so hinges largely on the play of three key interior linemen: Benito Jones, Breeland Speaks and Josiah Coatney.
Logan says MSU’s defense needs improvement in all facets, especially against the pass (16:23). New coordinator Todd Grantham has a history of fielding stout defenses, and he’ll also need to improve the Bulldogs’ pass rush.
On the other side of the ball, the Ole Miss run game is in better shape this year thanks to the return of Jordan Wilkins, but the backup situation remains unsettled (3:13).
Also on this episode, Logan has an update on injuries (10:06), including the status of receiver Malik Dear; and Parrish says that despite all that has befallen the Rebels off the field, team morale appears to be OK (22:54) – although some losses early in the season could certainly change that.
