‘Tis the season for solidifying NCAA tournament résumés, and that’s the big topic tackled today by Parrish and Logan (5:41).
Ole Miss needs at least two more SEC wins, and maybe three, to find itself on the right side of the NCAA bubble. But there are no gimmes on the remaining schedule. As for MSU, all it has to to is avoid a late-season collapse. The Bulldogs dodged a bullet at Georgia on Wednesday (2:52), when a stuffed bulldog played a role in the game’s finish. Quinndary Weatherspoon scored a career-high 31 points in the win.
On the women’s side, Ole Miss and State meet tonight in Oxford (15:40). The Rebels will try to take a page from Missouri’s playbook and limit Teaira McCowan, something that’s easier said than done.
Baseball season began last weekend, with MSU breaking in its renovated stadium against Youngstown State (19:18). There was a lot of offense for the Bulldogs, who were led by Tanner Allen. The pitching was also strong, with Ethan Small and J.T. Ginn turning in quality starts.
Ole Miss is 2-1 after a win over Arkansas State on Wednesday (23:00). Freshman phenom Gunnar Hugland had a shaky debut, but Parrish noted that two innings is a small sample size for someone who will be part of the weekend starting rotation.
